The department store, once under a different name, was built in 1929. It was the first downtown store to feature escalators. Originally, the building was constructed under the name of it's business owner but merged with a growing store located on Eutaw and Saratoga streets, thus a new company was born
As time went on, the building was purchased by the growing Park's discount store to expand their business. The Park's company eventually made its way in to the suburbs of the city.
Despite it's original success, the Park's store went bankrupt in 1991 and closed. The building is currently involved in a preservation plan to bring the block back to life.
